President Zhou, Qifeng, and President Wang, Enge

Danny Li, 2013-3-23

There are many veiled criticisms against  Prof. Zhou, Qifeng, the president of Peking University , but I am one of his supporters. First of all, he is a real person, for example, he published his music piece "Chemistry is you, chemistry is me", which is not  comparable with the work by the trained professionals. He wrote on his own rather than his secretaries. Essentially, a man who dares to reveal his real thoughts is worthy of respecting.

I had a chance to drink tea with Prof. Wang, Enge in 1999, at a project review meeting of National Natural Science Foundation of China. Prof. Wang was a fellow of Shenyang. His music piece would not be better than that of Prof. Zhou, if he wrote himself.

Prof. Zhou said "The US education turned out a great mess" that was made a deliberate misinterpretation out of his context by the journalists. We know what is wrong with the US education since we have lived in North America for many years. The Chinese intelligentsia adores the US educations, they normally do not allow the criticisms of US Universities. Cai Yuanpei, Hu Shi had made a lot of outrageous howlers themselves, often shooting from their lips, wagging their tongues too freely. For sure, these drawbacks did not hinder the respects of others.

Prof. Wang is not up to someone's taste in Peking University, because he graduated from Liaoning University, not a famous one, a kind of vanity. He is high-level physicist, a man with his feet on the ground.  There will no big difference between Prof. Zhou and Prof. Wang.
